Avoid The YoYo

Help, I have been stuck on a yoyo dieting roller coaster for years now, what are some simple weight loss tips to avoid the yoyo diet?

This is a common problem especially today where society seems hard wired to fatten us up.  It is impossible not to drive down the street and see dozens of fast food restaurants and the actual quality of the food that we think is healthy is often not that great.  There is no question about it, it is easy to put on weight if you loose focus for any time at all.  To make matters worse, in our fast paced want it now society we expect quick  instantaneous results when it comes to weight loss.  We usually take drastic action that is not a long term sustainable lifestyle.  This inevitably leads to the yoyo diet phenomenon.

Eat smaller meals more often

This is an easy one, it allows you to eat all day and feel full while consuming smaller portions of healthy nutritious food.  Stay away from calorically dense food and don’t make it harder than it has to be.  If you want to eat some protein and carbs go for it if you prefer to just eat carbs go for that too.  Don’t over think things that just makes it harder to stick to any plan.

Make the necessary lifestyle changes

If you need to make big changes in your life to sustain a healthy lifestyle make them and make them for good.  The one thing we can count on is that this is the only body we have been given for life, take care of it and it will take care of you.  Big changes can be difficult but they may also be essential.

Variety is the spice of life

It may have been Shakespeare that originally said that, but regardless you need variety and you need change.  Not only to keep things interesting but also to keep challenging your body and helping you get past plateaus.  The same thing hold try for diet.  It is important to eat a variety of healthy food in order to maximize the number of nutrients we take in and to feed our muscles with a variety of protein sources.

Keep a close eye on maintenance

Watch the scale. It is not a good idea to watch the scale when you are trying to loose weight but when you are trying to maintain a certain weight, pick a number and stick with it.  If your weight strays by more than a few pounds take quick action to get it back to were you want it.  Consider this preventative maintenance.
