It is more health encompassing than simple weight loss or muscle building.  It is about longevity and the way that your diet effects your overall longevity.</p>
<p>You may have heard of a calorie restriction diet and the truth is that virtually any diet under the sun, with the exception of maybe Atkins is a calorie restriction diet.  When people refer to a calorie restriction diet they are really referring to a lifestyle.  This particular lifestyle attempts to shift the focus away from eating.  It is well documented that people who do not carry excess weight are much healthier and it is also quite apparent that we need to eat to live but the jury has been arguing about how much we need to eat for a long time.</p>
<p>We are evolutionarily wired to consume more than we need because we can never be sure where the next meal will come from or when the next drought will happen.  This simply isn’t the case anymore but our bodies and brains haven’t caught up to our rapid lifestyle changes yet.  We have also grown up in a culture that tells us to finish everything on our plate.  The problem is that our plates have continued to get bigger over the years.  Finishing a restaurant portion of food these days can easily give you more than enough calories for a few days.</p>
<p>Calorie restriction is basically a balancing act between being hungry and having enough.  It is not about depriving yourself of food but only providing what is really necessary.  It can be very difficult for people to make this switch because virtually everything in popular culture screams of over consumption.  That is why this is considered a lifestyle change.</p>
<p>The traditional calorie restricter may ver well be a vegetarian or at least a flexitarian who only eats meat on a occasion and when they do eat meat they will be aware of the quality of meat that they are consuming.  Many restricters will only eat meat when they are aware that their body is in need.  For example after a marathon or heavy workout.</p>
<p>Restricters will generally not consume excess calories in the form of drinks like soda or alcohol.</p>
<p>After all of this it is time for a specific definition, calorie restriction is attempting to eat 20 &#8211; 40% below your calorie threshold while still maintaining all of your required nutrients.  It goes without saying that this can be a challenge but it gets easier as you start to understand how to spot nutrient dense food.</p>
<p>Some of the benefits of a calorie restriction diet include:</p>
<p>The most obvious benefit of calorie restriction is the weight loss associated with the lifestyle.  Your body is able to normalize and actually come to its ideal set point which allows all of your systems to function in optimal balance.</p>
<p>Some of the most shocking benefits also manifest later in life as it becomes apparent that calorie restriction has actually slowed down the aging process.  Your body becomes used to functioning with less and is better able to utilize the nutrients that it has available.  This means that muscle deterioration slows down.  If you have ever watched someone that you love get old you are well aware of the dangers of muscle wasting and that this can actually be one of the big strikes that takes you out in the end.</p>
<p>It has also been found that the body starts to improve on the genetic level.  When calories are restricted your body must basically do more with less. <p>There are many ongoing studies into the calorie restricted lifestyle and it is now thought that changes on the genetic level are occurring. The truth of the matter is that you have to make some lifestyle changes to loose weight and keep it off.  Diet plays about 80% of the roll in your weight management program with exercise and regular activity playing the other 20%.  Yes it is the old 80/20 principle again.  Yet this 20% can really make a difference.</p>
<p>It can be the difference between looking average and having a 6 pack.  The difference between just being able to get your favorite jeans on or really being in great physical shape.  The question is how to you get there?  The answer is:</p>
<p>Super Sets</p>
<p>Using supersets to get a great workout out has a number of benefits.  First the high intensity burns a lot of fat and revs up the metabolism for hours to come after a workout.    The high cardiovascular output required to maintain a superset workout will also catapult you into a stratospheric level of fitness.  Using all of your large muscle groups during a workout will stimulate lots of growth hormone and cause your muscles to be primed for growth.  There are many other reasons but I see these as most important.  So the question becomes how do I do a good superset workout?</p>
<p>How to do a Superset Workout</p>
<p>First, choose two exercises that work opposing muscle groups.  My favorites are push ups and pull ups, squats and deadlifts, Military press and lunges, among many others.  You may notice that all of these exercises focus on full body exercises and that is no coincidence.  Doing full body exercises burns that max number of calories and also hits all of the smaller muscles like the biceps and calfs.</p>
<p>Try to set your exercises up as close to each other as possible, if you are in a busy gym it can be a challenge to commander two stations at a time but I would encourage you make it work.  This may mean finding a better time to workout off peak or doing specific exercises that are close together or utilize the same piece of equipment.</p>
<p>Decide how many reps you are going to do.  I suggest picking a number between 10 &#8211; 20.  Now choose a weight that will allow you do preform the first set and complete all reps without cheating.  You will be weary by the end so don’t hesitate to drop the weight a little bit.</p>
<p>Complete your exercises with no more than 30 seconds in between sets, less if possible.  Your goal should be to not rest at all and let your opposing muscle group recover while you are working the opposite.  This is a fitness tip that will really get your endurance up.  Do at least 3 sets for both exercises</p>
<p>- Your last set should be a struggle and if you are able to do your last rep with good form it is time to add weight.</p>
<p>Do at least 6 exercises with this same set up and structure.</p>
<p>When you are finished with this workout you will be worn out and need to take some recovery time.  Do not do this workout for more than one day in a row.</p>
<p>Other Things to Keep in Mind</p>
<p>The higher your reps the fewer sets you should do, but 3 sets is minimum.  I know some people who do as many as 10 sets of a specific exercise.</p>
<p>This workout can be adapted to be a full body workout or it can be a lower body and upper body split.  I do it both ways but if I do a split I may do the workout 4 times a week instead of just 3.  Doing upper body and lower body on different days will allow you to workout 2 days in a row.  I would suggest taking the third day off.</p>
<p>If you are focusing on full body movements don’t worry about abs, arms, or calf.  They will get plenty of exercise from the full body movements.  This is about using your time effectively and spending half of your workout time focusing on some of your smallest muscle groups is not time effective.</p>
<p>Change your workouts, exercises, weights, and reps on a regular basis to keep your body guessing.  This will prevent adaptation and stimulate grow.</p>
<p>Progress every workout by keeping a log of your workout.  It is easy to forget what you did last time you were in the gym, but if you kept a record you will see that you need to add 5 pounds to your bench press on the last set.  Keeping records is for beginners and people serious about seeing results.</p>

<p>A realization hit me like a ton of bricks some years ago and it is this.  It isn’t about how much you do in the gym its about what you put into your body that makes the most difference.  Saying that diet is 75% of the equation is a liberal estimate, it could really be as high as 90%.</p>
<p>So, what you must do is figure out what you <strong><a href="http://simple-weightlosstips.com/weight-loss-is-just-a-matter-of-calculations" target="_self">daily caloric expenditure</a></strong> is.  This can be done with a simple equation found easily on the web.  Just do a search for a calorie calculator and you will come up with a number of results.  I would suggest calculating with a number of different sites and taking an average.  They will give you a number of different answer based on a number of different inputs.  You should have a pretty good idea based on your weight and you activity how many calories you should be burning in a day.</p>
<p>I am going to use the standard 2000 calories, which is what nutritional information is based on.  And this is a pretty good average for many people.  To most people it sounds low and that is why there are so many over weight people out there today.</p>
<p>Once you determine roughly how many calories you burn in a day, eat that many calories and see how you feel.  This will help you tweak this number to get a better idea of how accurate your estimate is.  Once you have a good baseline and you know what it feels like to eat the amount of calories that you should be eating start eating a little less everyday.  You will have to keep a log to be accurate in this area.</p>
<p>I work in blocks of 100 calories.  My daily burn is about 2600, I can work all the way down to 1200 for short periods of time.  When I do this it is only for a day at a time and I am eating very nutritionally dense food.  The key is to fluctuate the number of calories that you are eating in a day, but remain in a deficit.</p>
<p>Once you understand the numbers recognize that 3500 calories equals one pound of fat.  At the end of the week tally up your caloric deficit, factor in the amount of calories you burned durning exercise and you will get a number.  Divide that number by 3500 and you should get roughly the number of pounds that you have lost during that week.  Any fluctuations are based more on water weight than anything else.</p>

Here are my top 5 summer weight loss tips that can help you <strong><a href="http://simple-weightlosstips.com/designing-a-diet-to-lose-weight" target="_self">loose weight fast</a></strong>.</p>
<ol>
<li>Start an exercise program.  If you are not already on one, this a an excellent way to get fast results.  If you are already on a program start a new one.  Focus on something that will get your heart rate up as opposed to something like a power lifting workout.</li>
<li>Commit to a diet for 30 days.  It doesn’t matter if you choose the Hollywood cookie diet, though I don’t advocate this one, just pick on and stick to it.  Anything that causes you to eat at a caloric deficit will cause you to loose weight.  Be dedicated and be determined.  It is only for 30 days and you can make major progress in a short period of time, which can lead to momentum.</li>
<li>Wake up earlier and go to bed when you are tired.  The point being you need to get a good amount of sleep if you are eating at a deficit and working out.  To loose weight you also need your hormones to be at optimum levels.  Getting good rest can assure that your body will recover and your hormones will be where they need to be.</li>
<li>Keep a log of what you are eating and your exercise regime.  Yes, this means count calories, you don’t have to be militant about it, but keeping track of things can help you recognize areas that are causing you problems.  Keeping a log can also be a great learning process, it may also be a shocker to see what you are actually consuming.</li>
<li>Do cardio and weights.  I don’t care if you hate cardio, it will help you loose weight despite what many gurus are now saying.  But the key is to also do some sort of endurance exercise.  Both of these together will work in conjunction to give you an optimal body.  Do your resistance training first to get into the fat burning mode and get the most out of your energy.  You can do cardio when you are tired and still get good benefit, but you are sacrificing when you lift weights tired.</li>

The short version explanation is that it is a low cost sweetener that makes food taste really darn good. <p>The findings are terrifying.  It taste so good that it is hard to put down.  In test groups people will favor products with HFCS and not even know why.  HFCS burns much faster than regular sugar and for this reason causes severe insulin spikes and major valleys.  HFCS basically has the same effect on many people that drugs like cocaine can have.  It also happens to be used in conjunction with caffeine in many foods, thus accentuating the addictive tendencies that it already has.</p>
