Weight Loss is Just a Matter of Calculations

If you want to picture how easy it is to calculate your weight loss goals, just think of your body as a weight scale. On the one side you will put all of the calories you will burn up via exercise and activity. On the other side you will pile on the calories that you consume daily through the foods that you eat.

If you want to maintain your present weight and learn how to lose weight fast you need to make sure the scale is properly balanced. Whenever you take in more calories than you burn up, the scale drops down on the “eat calories” side, and those extra calories are stored in your body.  Those fat deposits hang out around your tummy, on your hips, or the top of your thighs, around your waist.

In order to lose weight, the scale will need to tip the other direction, where the “calories burned” side is lower than the “calories eaten” side. Did you know that in order to get rid of one pound of fat you have to burn up a total of three thousand and five hundred calories?
There are three main ways that you can trim your weight down.

1. Speed up your metabolic rate:  You can do this by gaining more lean muscle, which you get from using weights, for example.  Every pound of muscle gained means that your body will burn up an extra fifty calories each day.

2. Eat less food:  If you are able to cut back on your daily calorie intake by 500 calories a day, you should end up losing one pound of fat each week.  If you want to lose two pounds of fat each week you would need to eat 1000 less calories a day.

3. Exercise: If your aim is to lose two pounds of fat a week you would need to walk at a moderate pace for around one and a half hours each day. But you would need to keep it up every day of the week.

Of course, if you are really serious about trying to lose weight, you should combine all of the methods above. If you eat less, develop more lean muscle and exercise every day you will be more likely to lose weight faster than if you only try one of these methods alone, and it will be a less intense experience as well.
